THE 4V4 LEAGUE

WHAT IS THIS ALL ABOUT?

CO-ED OR GENDER PURE
The 4V4 League will be gender-pure (i.e. not co-ed).  However, depending upon the number of registered participants in a particular age / gender bracket, we may offer a co-ed option if there are not enough players in a particular age / gender group to form a large enough playing group.  However, if this happens, parents may "opt-out" and will receive a full refund.  This Club has received a lot of parent and child feedback and have decided that a gender-pure format is best for the 4v4 League.

THE PHILOSOPHY
4V4 is designed to provide competition in a fun and fast-moving format  that develops soccer skills of all the participants. We want to provide the children of the community the opportunity to continue to develop their soccer skills and avoid the long "soccer layoff,"  while allowing the time for the participants  to have the opportunity to play and enjoy other sports. Many studies have shown that small-sided games are the best way to develop childrens' soccer skills.

PRE-SEASON TRAINING / ORIENTATION

The Club is planning on having a free weekend session (venue TBD) during the month of March to introduce the participants to the rules of play and have some fun activities oriented specifically towards the 4v4 playing format. Details will be forthcoming.  There will be no charge for this mini-camp for program participants.

WHEN / WHERE ARE THE GAMES

Games are currently scheduled to
be played on Sunday afternoons. A team practice will immediately precede each game. Schedules will be finalized sometime in mid-March. Games will be played at Skypark in Scotts Valley.

WHEN ARE THE PRACTICES

Our 4v4 program is designed to be played at the same time as other Spring sports that children may play. The idea of our 4v4 program is to provide a fun environment for those kids who want to continue to develop their soccer skills and not have the long "soccer layoff," where skills decline and the children do not have an opportunity play soccer in an organized format. Moreover, we want participants to maximize that development by being actively involved in the action - hence the 4v4 format (fewer players = more action for the players = greater skill development). Thus, we are having scheduled practices for all teams once a week during the week (e.g. Friday afternoons) and one practice immediately preceding the games (Sunday afternoons). This makes practices easy to attend - with a focus on game play. In addition, special skill development clinics will be held on these Fridays at the practice venue - where all teams participate.
